Gimpsy Forum: A new year - and a revamped Gimpsy!

Gimpsy is getting better all the time, and more popular too! Some registered users have even discovered the ‘Gimpsy favourite’ facility and are ‘hording’ their preferred sites in their private Gimpsy directory.

We are relentlessly looking for ways to make Gimpsy easier to use, more productive, more accurate and more fun! Here is a list of some recent cahanges

Live Help

If you see a small ‘speech bubble’ at the bottom of the page – it’s a sign that a Gimpsy Team Member is available for questions or comments – online! If you feel stuck while suggesting a site, looking for something but can’t find it or just want to tell us what you think – you’re welcome to click on it and chat with us. It is not a 24/7 operation, but as the team is physically located in so many countries, you may be surprised to find someone available at very odd times.

Better Natural Language tolerance

Gimpsy is now indifferent to the plural/singular distinction. It will show the right category whether the user entered ‘download action game’ or ‘download action games’.

Search within category

Until recently, searching in Gimpsy was done at a category level only. Now there is a new option, available on every search results page, to ‘Limit by keywords’. Simply type the keyword(s) in the field and click ‘Apply’ to select the sites within the category that have the required keyword(s) anywhere in their title, description or URL.

Keyword searches

Gimpsy now caters (in its own way) to keyword searching. Some examples:
- Type in ‘gimpsy’ – and the right site pops up (any other domain example would be unfair – but they all work!).
- One of the comments made in the review of Gimpsy (http://www.supportforums.org/article105.html) was: "It may be astonishing for the singer's fans to find that just typing 'Madonna' leads to a 'No results' page." This is no longer true. Gimpsy shows all the categories in which Madonna is mentioned, and allows the user to either see all the sites in the category (click on the category itself), or just those that have ‘Madonna’ mentioned (click on ‘show selected sites’).

Streamlined the ‘Claiming Site’ process

If your site is listed in Gimpsy – you can ‘claim’ it. This is a no-cost and fast process that gives you some control over your site listing in Gimpsy and entitles you to receive a monthly report, regarding your site’s performance within the directory. The process has been simplified and is fully automated.

New Help File for Registered users

The already extensive on-line help system has been strengthened by a special Help File for Registered Users. Since it is not relevant to users who did not register, the link to that Help File is placed only on the ‘My Gimpsy’ menu page of registered users.

Suggesting a site - even easier

The unique categorization method used by Gimpsy makes life easier for the Searchers, but the SIte Owners sometimes struggle to find the proper category for their site. To help them, we have added a short explanation next to each category name. To see the explanation, just click on the 'book' symbol next to the category name. We are hoping that this will not only speed up the review process for sites correctly submitted, but also prevent suggesting sites that have no chance of being accepted.
